Options counseling

If you know you’re pregnant, at New Life you’ll find support and information through our Options Counseling.

It is important to find support as you explore your options. It is normal to change your mind about your plan throughout your pregnancy. You do not need to wait until you have made a decision to talk to a social worker. We are here to help you sort through your feelings and thoughts about your pregnancy, as well as to help you explore your options.

What Options Counseling looks like…

Through the use of videos, worksheets, articles, books and/or discussion, your Expectant Parent Social Worker will help you explore your options. Maybe speaking with someone who has been in your shoes would be most helpful. As you work with your Expectant Parent Social Worker, the two of you can make a plan that works best for you and your pregnancy situation. You can meet at one of our offices or a coffee shop or other location that is convenient for you.

Making a decision about your pregnancy may be one of the biggest decisions you will ever make. Taking time to learn as much as possible about your options will help you make the best decision for you and your child. At New Life Family Services, our licensed Expectant Parent Social Workers are available to support you as you make this decision, and will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision.

Below is an idea of what your time with an Expectant Parent Social Worker might look like:

Initial Information Session

At this visit, you will complete a brief contact and consent form. Doing this gives you the opportunity to identify specific aspects of your situation about which you’d like more information. You will meet with your social worker to explore information about your options. We’ll even give you a packet of information so you can look over available resources when it is most comfortable and convenient for you.

Follow-up Session

After the Initial Information Session, your next visit will allow you and your Expectant Parent Social Worker to talk more in-depth about your situation. Having this information will help your social worker to support and assist you in your decision-making process.

On-going Sessions

Throughout your pregnancy, you may continue meeting with your Expectant Parent Social Worker. You may use this time together to gain an idea of what adoption and parenting would look like in your situation, ask questions, receive information and referrals for additional support and resources, and learn about others’ experiences. As you find yourself making a decision about your pregnancy, with the help of your social worker, the two of you can design sessions that best suit your needs and questions. You can meet regularly or every so often, depending on your schedule and what you are looking for.
